A highly decorative Swedish shield and pair of axes made of steel. Gilt and blue-bruised. Late 19th c
This is top quality Swedish made steel. Made in Eskilstuna in the late 19th c. The quality is the same as Russian Tula steelworks.
They were probably especially ordered for a large hall or an official office. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. The size and quality makes these items very rare. Usually objects made with this method were smaller pieces like cigar boxes, pocketknives or piture-frames. Steel is hard and therefore difficult to work with. The engravings and design is just top of the line.
