A Japanese cabinet, Tansu. Late 19th c
A high quality Japanese Tansu. The motives goes all around and is meant to be used as a free standing piece. The motives with a base of black lacquer with motives of cranes and phoenix birds in a landscape with trees, bamboo and waterfalls. The cabinet holds eight drawers which have motives of cranes on the front. At the base of the cabinet is a large drawer.
The lacquer is of the highest quality with very thick, three dimensional motives.
