A Pair of Gustavian "Blyberg" Porphyry Urns With Ormolu Mounted Porphyry Lids, Early 19th Century
A rare pair of late gustavian “Blyberg” porphyry urns with ormolu mounted porphyry lids. Early 19th century. Made in Älvdalens porphyry factory founded in 1788. The Swedish Porphyry is 1,7 billion years old and extremely hard. It´s considered to be as hard as steel on a scale. It´s very difficult to work with and very expensive to make objects of. This pair was a true luxury object when made.
