A vintage bronze reproduction of The Thinker (Le Penseur), after the celebrated sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin (1840–1917). Probably dating from the second half of the 20th century, this small-scale bronze sculpture is mounted on a rectangular grey stone base. The Thinker was originally conceived by Rodin around 1880 as part of his monumental work The Gates of Hell. It subsequently became an independent sculpture and one of the most recognisable works in the history of Western art. The seated male nude is depicted in deep contemplation, leaning forward with his chin resting on one hand. The muscular figure and textured rocky seat reproduce the distinctive composition of Rodin's original design. The bronze has a dark brown patina with lighter highlights that accentuate the modelling of the figure. The reverse bears the Rodin signature and a circular foundry-style mark, apparently reading J.B. Déposée.
