Width 4.5 cm (2 inches) x Length 19.5 cm (8 inches)
A large Russian silver spoon made by Roman Aristarkhov in Moscow in 1895. The spoon is struck with Aristarkhov’s maker’s mark Р.А., the assay mark of Lev Fedorovich Oleks, Л.О/1895, the silver standard 84 zolotnik (875/1000), and the Moscow city mark.
The reverse of the bowl is richly decorated in polychrome cloisonné enamel with symmetrical stylised flowers and scrolling foliage in turquoise, blue, green, white and red against a dark ground. A border of turquoise enamel circles follows the edge. The long handle is partly enamelled with spiral and geometric patterns and terminates in a cylindrical enamelled finial. A fine and well-preserved example of late 19th-century Russian silver and enamel work.
